I've never been as effective without meeting with someone to talk about all variables that are at play in looking at retirement, so that would be my preference. No one has left a meeting with me regretting that investment of time. If this simply can't work, let me know and I could provide some basics. However, please take into consideration that you are dealing with the second most complicated retirement system in America. It should require an investment of your time to make sure you take all things into consideration before you make a choice that sticks with you for the rest of your life.

Why shouldn't suicide be a form a planning. Health problems, money going fast. Home life not the greatest.

At least I can leave the kids something. They are having trouble making ends meet. Not a new idea. I purchased large life insurance policy to give me this option having seen my grandfather go at 63 and leaving little or noting for my grandmother who was raising me to survive. No welfare available at that time. Watched my dad die broke and lonely in County Home.

This is the one thing I can do for my wife and kids. A chance for my wife to live a good final life financially and leave enough money to help the kids. Can't work. Take medicines and sleep most of time. Not much of life. Might be good plan.

You asked for any advice I might have. I'll give you one piece of helpful information. Citing the Oregonian as a source of information about things related to PERS obscures just how biased the Oregonian has been against PERS members and retirees. I think your credibility would go up if you picked a selection of articles from the wonderful variety on http://oregonpers.info and let people pick and choose from them. The Oregonian makes no secret that it hates the unions, hates PERS members, and most especially despises "window retirees". It is almost as if we "caused" the crisis, when, in fact, we never had any options about the retirement system we got and the options we chose at retirement. The Oregonian was also there front and center urging the Legislature back in 1980 to deal with the PERS "pick up" in lieu of salary increases, but conveniently forgot their role when 2002 rolled around. I can't imagine a more biased media source than the Oregonian. So, do all of us a favor and forget citing them as a source of anything useful. It will only anger the clientele you're trying to cultivate.

My objective is to educate PERS employee on their options within PERS and outside of PERS. II do consult with PERS members about their options not just at retirement, but I also work with the young public employees with IAP or young professors with ORP. I take a percentage of the assets I manage, usually 1% or less.

The more I learn about PERS, the more I realize I don't know. I feel so many advisors pick a niche just for the sake of having one and I really want to know my stuff and any blessing I can get from you or Greg would be wonderful. I have attended many seminars, enough the most of the PERS presenters know me by name.

There is a lot to and a lot to tell people. I am trying to do so in an objective fashion, showing PERS side of things and my side of things. I have been complimented in my community of Corvallis of my work so far and I look forward to learning more and helping others while I grow my business.

Any suggestions from you would be appreciated.

Matt, This is new information and potentially very valuable. I had no idea one could change their mind. I am 64 and while I don't currently plan on changing my mind I love knowing I have that option and I love the idea of having the option with an interest free payback.
